Speed restriction removed on SWR line
Hourly train services between Exeter St Davids and London Waterloo have resumed after three months.
South Western Railway and Network Rail have removed speed restrictions between Gillingham in Dorset and Axminster in East Devon following restoration work.
Services between the Devon city and the capital were limited to every two hours.
The driest spring and hottest summer ever recorded in the UK had dried out clay embankments between Exeter and Salisbury, which disturbed track levels, a condition known as 'soil moisture deficit'.
Cooler temperatures and autumn rain have rehydrated and stabilised the embankments, and engineers have now completed work to restore track levels.
The normal timetable has been restored and South Western Railway has thanked the public for their patience.
