The M5 has now reopened in Somerset on what is expected to be one of the busiest travel days of the year. Schools in many areas break up for the summer holidays today, although the term ends next week for most Devon schools.
Highways England said there was a substantial oil and diesel spill stretching eight miles and the motorway was closed between Wellington and Bridgwater.
CLOSURE UPDATE: #M5 northbound between Junctions 26 #Wellington to Junction 24 #Huntworth. ALL the closures have now been removed. Please take care in the area and we would like to thankyou for your patience. pic.twitter.com/q5OFRHZFn9
