Multi-agency rescue last night.
Torbay Coastguard received a call from The Maritime and Coastguard Agency to help the Berry Head Coastguard just after 8.15pm last night (Tuesday 4th September)
Reports came in of a climber who had fallen 20-30 feet off the headland at Berry Head to the bottom of the rocks.
Rescue Officers - who were first on scene - say the Casualty was surprisingly in good spirits, but had a leg injury. They cared for the casualty until a volunteer doctor arrived.
The search and rescue helicopter from Newquay was also involved in the rescue. The team carried the casualty out of the base of the cliff on a stretcher whilst a landing site was being prepared, but they ended up taking him to Torbay Hospital in an ambulance.
Torbay Coastguard said on Facebook "This evening was a very lucky outcome and as the team had prepared for a worse injury. We wish a speedy recovery to the leg injury."
They also issued a warning saying "Remember in a coastal emergency, if it's at Sea, Beach, Harbour, Coastal Path/Cliff or Tidal River. DIAL 999 AND ASK FOR THE COASTGUARD."
