A woman's been arrested following the incident on Sunday night.
Police were called to reports of a collision involving a car and a pedestrian on Brixham Road, near Tweenaway Cross at 10.45pm.
A 23-year-old man was taken to Torbay hospital, where he remains in a critical but stable condition.
A 26-year-old woman, from Totnes, was detained at the scene.
Police are requesting that any witnesses with any information and or dash camera footage are to please come forward, unless they have already been in contact with officers at the scene.
