Police sent several units and helicopters to Dartmoor on Sunday morning.
"Numerous" people apparently called police yesterday morning (0630, Sunday 8th September) to report a plane crash over Dartmoor.
Callers told police they'd seen 2 planes collide near Cadover Bridge and a bright light falling from the sky near Princetown.
A number of units from North and South Devon were dispatched, as well as two helicopters. But, Air Traffic Control reported no missing aircraft.
Officers say after a thorough search of the area, it was called off. It's now thought witnesses saw a meteor or asteroid shower.
Police added that the calls made to them were with "good intent".
