By September 2019, 1200 officers will be able to use a taser - there are currently 550.
Between 2011 and 2016, tasers were used 476 times during incidents in Devon and Cornwall.
It's also hoped the move will reduce the number of assaults on officers.
Last year, 492 police men or woman were assaulted across the two counties.
