A Commons defence committee report called 'Sunset for the Royal Marines' said the service makes a disproportionate contribution to the country's security.
More than half of the country's elite special forces are Royal Marines, all of whom start their careers in Lympstone.
The Defence Committee, which is made up of a cross-party membership of MPs, wants government proposals to be cancelled.
