Police in Exeter are trying to establish whether more than three thousand pounds in cash, left outside a local charity shop, was intended as a donation.
The money was found in a bag with other items outside the Hospiscare branch in Cowick Street on Monday, while the shop was still closed.
Police say they just want to make sure the owner of the money meant to leave it there and are appealing for them to confirm this.
If no-one comes forward the cash will be passed on to the charity.
