The jury in the trial of an Exeter police sergeant and two civilian officers - accused of the manslaughter of Crediton man Thomas Orchard - have been discharged without reaching a verdict.
The 32 year old died in hospital after being arrested in Exeter city centre and restrained at Heavitree Road police station.
Sergeant Jan Kingshott and civilan custody officers Michael Marsden and Simon Tansley had all denied unlawful act manslaughter, and gross negligence manslaughter.
The jurors spent five days deliberating - and have now been sent home.
It'll be up to the Crown Prosecution Service to decide whether there'll be a retrial.
