The Dawlish Warren car parks required significant improvement works to alleviate health and safety issues.
A report that went to the Teignbridge District Council’s executive said that the work would fill in the potholes, provide improved pedestrian walkways through the car park, and would stop parking spaces being unusable because of surface water flooding during and after heavy rainfall.
Councillor Gordon Hook, leader of the Liberal Democrat Group on Teignbridge District Council said the improvement works were very welcome and long overdue. “For a while, the state of car park has been a disincentive to go Dawlish Warren, and recently it has been a danger to life and limb. Let’s get on with this work get it complete it before the school holidays," he said.
There will be a marginal gain of 11 spaces once the work is completed, and if approved, works are planned to commence on Monday, May 21, to allow the contractor to mobilise their site set-up.
Work will be limited during the following half term week to minimise disruption and the main works will commence on Monday, June 4.
Teignbridge District Council’s executive when they meet on Tuesday morning approved a £220,000 capital expenditure on the plans, funded by revenue contributions of £47,560 and capital receipts of up to £172,440, for the improvement works at Dawlish Warren car park and to award a contract following a compliant procurement process.
