The M5 near Tiverton is expected to be closed for much of the day after a lorry overturned in the early hours of this morning.
The Southbound carriageway near Junction 27 is closed due to an overturned tipper lorry and fuel spillage, with one lane closed northbound.
Emergency services received the call just before 2:00am to reports that a HGV had hit the central reservation and was on its side.
A large recovery and clean up operation is continuing, with emergency barrier repairs and resurfacing work being carried out.
The 23 year old driver was taken to hospital with reported head and arm injuries.
Motorists are advised to use an alternative route or allow extra time for journeys.
