Police are investigating, after two people were doused in petrol before being threatened with a lighter during a burglary in Crediton.
The incident is believed to have happened shortly after 10pm on Tuesday night [3 September] where five men wearing balaclavas are said to have stolen a number of items, including bank cards.
An officer has described it as a “shocking crime” but say it was an isolated incident.
DS Skinner said: “We received reports that five men entered the property and covered the two occupants in petrol before threatening them with a lighter. No one was injured in the incident.
“It was further reported that the men, who were reportedly wearing balaclavas, stole a number of items including bank cards, before fleeing the scene.
“We believe that the offenders were known to the occupants of the property and enquiries are ongoing."
