Many questioned the number of officers operating road blocks around Plainmoor
Police have defended their actions, after being criticised by football fans for an 'over the top' presence at a pre-season friendly on Saturday.
Many questioned the number of officers operating road blocks around Plainmoor for the match between Torquay United and Exeter City, with one calling it a ‘waste of precious resources’.
But Chief Superintendent Keith Perkin said the operation was intelligence led, after they'd been told a number of people were intent on causing problems after the game, which necessitated such a response.
He added: “Apologies for any disruption, but the presence did minimise the risk to local residents.”
The Grecians won the match 2-1, thanks to goals from Tom Parkes and Randell Williams.
