Devon and Cornwall police are understood to be looking into the activities of the former East Devon district councillor Graham Brown.
Graham Brown, the Conservative councillor for Feniton and Buckerell, resigned last week over allegations relating to his other role as a paid planning consultant.
He had been secretly filmed by journalists from the Daily Telegraph, apparently claiming he could influence the planning process.
The council reported the matter to police under their own policy on fraud, theft and anti-corruption, and Mr Brown then resigned as a councillor... although he maintains that he's done nothing wrong.
The report was referred to an organisation called Action Fraud who've passed it on to the National Fraud Authority.
East Devon district council said today that they believe Devon and Cornwall police will be looking into the issue.
