Devon and Cornwall police are preparing for an increase in calls over the New Year period - many connected with trouble caused by people drinking too much.
They're reminding people to only call 999 in an emergency - the 101 number should be used for enquiries or non-urgent calls.
They say they do their best to anticipate the busiest periods and staff the control rooms accordingly
