Devon and Cornwall Police has suspended the use of Regulation A19 with immediate effect.
It means that officers with thirty years of pensionable service will no longer be subject to compulsory retirement. Serving officers will now have the choice between continuing or voluntarily retiring.
Those who were affected by the regulation and who have already left will be given support.
