Rampant Argyle remain top of EFL Trophy group

Match Report: Plymouth 6-2 Tottenham Hotspurs U21’s

With a break from League One football, Plymouth Argyle faced Tottenham Hotspur’s under 21 team in the EFL trophy.

Despite Argyle suffering a tough 1-0 defeat over the weekend, Plymouth were determined to bounce-back and remain top of the Southern Group B with a win.

An explosive start from Plymouth led to the first goal of the game occurring in the fifth minute with a corner headed home by defender Mathias Ross.

The opener set the stage for a dominant first half.

Argyle kept piling on the pressure and nearly double their league from a second corner which was thwarted by the Spurs under 21 keeper.

However, home fans at Home Park didn’t have to wait long for the second goal, forward Tegan Finn slotted a half volley into the side of the goal from the edge of the box.

Plymouth looked rampant and continued to show their strength as striker Aribim Pebble tapped the ball in following an inviting cross to increase Plymouth's advantage.

Other than one shot comfortably saved by Plymouth keeper Conor Hazard, Tottenham couldn’t get a look in, with 14 total shots in the first half, it was Plymouth's game to lose.

The final goal of the half came in the 40th minute after a long ball over the Spurs backline found Owen Oseni who, with ease, dribbled past the keeper and slot the ball in the back of net.

Plymouth went into the dressing room at the half way stage firmly ahead,

Argyle manager Tom Cleverly reinforced his attack, after the break by bringing on more attacking power and this was evident within 10 minutes of the whistle when Tegan Finn scored his second of the day, curving it into the bottom corner following impressive back-to-back saves from Conor Hazard at the other end of the pitch.

It seemed Argyle were about to run over Spurs once again, however the Tottenham youngsters weren’t just going to roll over and showed courage and fight on a chilly night in Devon.

Following Plymouth's fifth goal, Spurs started attacking relentlessly. Saves from Conor Hazard could only keep them out for so long.

A clumbsy corner not fully cleared by Plymouth, meant a powerful Spurs shot managed to sneak underneath the Argyle keeper to get the Londoners on the score sheet.

The final action of the day came from Spurs as they managed to scramble a goal past Conor Hazard, who was off his line.

The full time score and Home Park was Plymouth Argyle 6-2 Tottenham Hotspur’s under 21.
