The case for investment in local rail links - including the Dawlish line - could be strengthened by a report by the Transport Select Committee.
It says regions such as the far South West have been starved of money, and calls on the Department for Transport to consider more factors when making funding decisions.
The MPs on the committee suggest that long term economic regeneration and social need should also be considered.
