Three hundred have been invited

Three hundred households in Eggbuckland have been invited to a public meeting on Thursday to quiz Plymouth City Council on the £156-million upgrade of Manadon Interchange.

The council’s cabinet member for transport and strategic planning Cllr John Stephens (Lab, Plymstock Dunstone) will give an outline of the proposals at William Sutton Village Hall before a question and answer session takes place.

Eggbuckland ward member on the city council Cllr Chris Wood (Con) has arranged the meeting with the intention of allowing those who live closest to the proposed scheme to better understand the plans, its potential impacts and to ask questions. Cllr Wood and fellow ward members  Chip Tofan (Con) and Labour councillor Tess Blight have delivered leaflets advertising the meeting  to each of the households.

The meeting will start at 6pm and finish at 7.30pm. Doors open at 5.45pm.

Plymouth City Council announced just before Christmas that its major plan to reduce congestion at the city’s busiest interchange had “broad support from the public” following a “comprehensive consultation”.

The Keep Manadon Moving consultation engaged with more than 12,000 residents through letters, a website, surveys, drop-in events, and pop-ups and generated 669 survey responses as well as more in-depth feedback from focus groups.

The council said results showed support for the majority of traffic and road layout changes but there were concerns over trees, biodiversity and wildlife as well as potential diversions and disruption.

Improvements to the proposed pedestrian and cycling upgrades, including a new cycle bridge, were also backed by residents.

Work has started on using the feedback to create a more detailed design which will be consulted on again in summer 2026. This next version will include more detail than before, particularly around the scale of impact on existing features around the roundabout, said the council.
