£1.2 million for average property
A South Hams town has the dubious accolade of being the most expensive seaside place to buy a property in the country.
Salcombe has knocked Dorset's Sandbanks off the top spot, according to the Halifax, a bank.
A home in the well-heeled South Devon town will set you back £1,244,025. With stamp duty of 10 per cent, you're not going to have much change out of £1.5 million.
It makes Sandbanks a bargain these days, as the average price is a measly £952,692.
The average price of a new home across the UK is £304,460.
The Halifax used Land Registry data to put together its top 10, which also includes other Devon towns, Dartmouth, which although nearby is half the price of a Salcombe home at £567,985; Kingsbridge (£556,659) and Budleigh Salterton (£537,681).
In Cornwall, Padstow at £790,847 and Wadebridge (£548,669) also make the list.
It means half of the top 10 most expensive towns for buying property are in Devon and Cornwall.
