A toilet block in Sidmouth has been extensively damaged by a suspected arson attack.

The ladies’ toilets at the Triangle in Sidmouth, which are owned by East Devon District Council, suffered the attack last week.

The council has reported the incident, which it believes to be deliberate, to the police, adding that the suspected arson has caused “extensive damage” to the toilet block.

Footage taken by council workers shows doors ripped off cubicles and black debris across the floor, which is seemingly ash.

A brief look at the ceiling and walls also suggests that fire was involved, with dark marks visible on the surfaces.

“The fire is being treated as a deliberate act of vandalism and, as a result, the ladies’ toilets at The Triangle are currently closed while repairs are carried out as quickly as possible,” a spokesperson for the council said.

“We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

“In the meantime, we have been working closely with Sidmouth Town Council and the ladies’ toilets at the Arches have been re-opened for public use.”

If anyone has any information about the incident, they can contact the police on the non-emergency 101 number quoting crime reference number DP 791 26 5050 01.
