Nationalised train company offers £15.30 Exeter to London fares

Nationalised train company South Western Railway is offering cut-price fares to make up for months of trouble on its Devon to London route.

Services were reduced from hourly to once every two hours because of track problems caused by the wrong mix of wet weather and dry weather.

Hourly services are to be restored on 29 November.

The company says that "to thank customers for their patience, SWR is offering 20,000 additional advance tickets starting from £13, including a range of off-peak tickets for journeys between Salisbury and Exeter which will be discounted by one third.

The discounts are for off-peak journeys between Saturday 29 November and Wednesday 17 December.
Today, South Western Railway (SWR) is making thousands of additional discounted off-peak tickets available for travel when the full West of England timetable is restored.

The discounted fares include off-peak journeys between London Waterloo/Clapham Junction and:

Yeovil, Sherborne and Crewkerne for £14
Axminster, Honiton and Exeter for £15.30.

To purchase tickets at these prices, customers would normally have to book typically 9 to 12 weeks before travel.

A return ticket between Yeovil and Exeter could cost £15.20, compared to the normal lowest fare of £23.

Peter Williams, South Western Railway’s Customer and Commercial Director, said: “We want to thank our customers for their patience since the amended timetable was introduced in August. To welcome customers back, we are pleased to offer a wide range of discounted fares on West of England line journeys."
