John Hawkins - who lives on New North Road is a regular taxi user. But yesterday afternoon, one of the driver's from Apple taxis who regularly picks him up happened to be driving past and saw smoke coming from the building.
Cristian Dumitrescu was on his way to drop someone at the station, but stopped after seeing the smoke.
He could hear John screaming on the first floor but couldn't see him because of the smoke. He managed to find him and carried him out on his back.
