Teignmouth Air Show cancelled again

Is it grounded for good?

One of Teignmouth’s most popular summer events has been called off again.

The Airshow Committee has officially confirmed that the spectacle will not return in 2026, signalling a likely permanent end to the annual event.

The decision comes after a difficult period for the organisers, who’ve struggled to cover soaring costs year-on-year.

Hosting the airshow costs approximately £100,000 - a figure that has become increasingly difficult to reach in the current economic climate.

In 2024, the situation became so dire that committee members had to personally underwrite the event’s costs after falling short of their goal.

Organisers have stated that relying on a small handful of local businesses and "eleventh-hour" donations is no longer a sustainable or fair way to operate.

At its peak, the airshow was a massive draw for the region, welcoming over 30,000 spectators to the town and providing a significant boost to the local atmosphere and economy.

"This is not an outcome we ever wanted," the committee said. "We will truly miss the buzz and the atmosphere we’ve created."

While the planes may not be returning to the skies over Teignmouth, the committee itself isn't disbanding entirely. They remain committed to supporting the town and confirmed that any remaining funds will be managed responsibly to benefit local community projects.
