Established in December 2015, The In Exeter team, launched and funded by Exeter Bid, are celebrating there 2 year anniversary having helped over 50,000 people in Exeter - the majority of them being tourists exploring the city.
The Welcome Team, consists of three members; Myra, Darren and Andy. They are all on duty in Exeter 7 days a week, 52 weeks a year. In that time, they have answered questions, given directions and assistance to 50,613 visitors and residents.
Launched and funded by Exeter BID, they are a skilled group on hand to help shoppers and tourists make the most of their time in the city by assisting visitors, monitoring the city environment and working with the businesses across the BID area.
In 2 years since launch, the team has assisted an average of 2, 000 per month. Of these enquiries, 38% are from foreign tourists, 32% UK tourists and 29% local people. The team most frequently direct lost people to the Exeter Quay, closely followed by Cathedral Green, John Lewis and the bus station.
Welcome Team member Darren says, “I love my job for its variety and the chance to play a significant part in this great city. People still manage to surprise us even after 2 years in the role, we have been asked everything from can you look after my mobility scooter, to what’s the average life span of a butterfly and even marriage proposals!”
Ann Hunter, In Exeter and Exeter BID manager, says, “The In Exeter Welcome team are such an asset to the city giving a warm welcome, help and advice to anyone visiting or living here. They are also an important link with city centre businesses and fonts of all knowledge about our city. We are proud of their achievements and grateful for their loyalty and hard work 7 days a week in Exeter."
