Devon's Trading Standards service looks likely to merge with its counterpart in Somerset.
Devon county councillors have approved the proposal in principle this afternoon, but it has to be discussed by Somerset councillors a week today.
A report that went before the Cabinet said the merger would achieve major savings in 'back-room' costs while providing a bigger and more agile service.
Offices would be kept in both counties, including bases in Exeter, Newton Abbot and Barnstaple... the council say they're confident there would be no compulsory redundancies.
