Plans for four homes near Exeter Airport have been approved after a previous attempt by the developer had failed.
Planners have now initially approved the plans for land adjacent to The Gardens, at Blackhorse, having previously refused a scheme that proposed five properties.
The application, from Mrs H Mithcell, was a planning in principle, or PIP, meaning that the approval essentially permits the notion of development for four homes, but detailed aspects such as access and the design of the properties will be considered in a subsequent application.
Some councillors raised concerns about noise from the airport, particularly as the rejected scheme had also been thrown out by the Planning Inspectorate who noted it had not explained how it would mitigate aircraft noise.
However, this week East Devon District Council’s planning committee heard that noise could be considered at the next planning stage, adding that the council’s environmental health team had not raised any objections.
Furthermore, the site is next to other properties, meaning other people already live in the area.
The planning committee voted nearly unanimously to approve the application, a stance recommended by officers.
