An Exeter hero of the D-Day landings has died at the age of 95.
Edmund 'Tommy' Purser took the lead landing craft onto Sword Beach in Normandy on one of the most notable dates of the second world war.....6 June 1944.
Mr Purser was 'mentioned in despatches' for getting his boat home after it took a direct hit and was rendered almost unseaworthy.
Flags at Topsham Sailing Club, where he was a member, have flown at half mast in his honour.
