Local doctors are predicting a worse-than usual flu season this winter - and are urging all those eligible for free vaccines to make sure they have them.
That includes pregnant women, young children and people with health conditions which make them more vulnerable to the virus.
The NHS bases its advice on information from countries in the southern hemisphere including Australia and New Zealand which have already had their winters.
New vaccines are developed every year, according to the information available on the viruses.
