Cofton Holidays welcomes nature lovers

As the Supreme Court ruling secures the public’s right to wild camp on Dartmoor, campers across the country have been celebrating a win for outdoor freedom.

But with the uncertainty of rain forecast across Devon, many adventurers may find their dreams of misty mornings and moorland stargazing dampened, quite literally.

For those craving a back-to-nature escape, without the wet socks and windburn, Cofton Holidays, nestled in the rolling hills of South Devon, offers a sustainable, family-friendly alternative just 13 miles from Dartmoor’s edge.

Cofton’s family-run site has welcomed nature lovers for over 50 years, weaving its pitches, lakes and walking trails through carefully preserved wildlife corridors.

Director of the site, Chris Jeffery says: “We’re thrilled Dartmoor remains open for wild campers—the site has always sat harmoniously amongst the glorious Devon countryside, it’s a part of our shared heritage”

“But if the skies open, we’re here to offer a warm, weather-proof plan B.”

Cofton’s commitment to conservation is more than skin deep.

With solar-heated showers, rare tree-planting, and active bat protection programmes, the park has earned multiple eco awards. And if the rain sets in? There’s no shortage of shelter. Guests can warm up in the heated indoor pool, unwind in the spa, or enjoy a Devon cream tea made with local ingredients in the on-site café. There’s plenty to entertain the kids, too, with forest trails, treetop high ropes and soft play.

For those still longing for the wild, Cofton’s woodland trails and quiet fishing lakes provide all the space to roam—without the mud, midges, or miserable mealtimes.

And for weary walkers rambling the nearby South West Coast Path, visitors can dry off with a hot drink in the dog-friendly pub or stop for fish and chips.

So, whether you’re rained off Dartmoor or just not up for wringing out a canvas tent in a supermarket car park, Cofton offers a greener, cleaner way to camp—no wellies required.
