Wrap up warm!
Freezing temperatures continue to cause problems across Devon and Cornwall today (6 January 2026).
A yellow weather warning for snow and ice remains in effect until midday, with authorities warning of treacherous driving conditions and "glass-like" pavements.
Gritters have been out across Devon and Cornwall as the wintry conditions set in.
One woman in Plymouth required air ambulance treatment yesterday after a severe leg injury on an icy pavement.
As gritters work around the clock, dozens of schools have been forced to close or delay their start times due to dangerous travel conditions and heating system failures.
Schools Fully Closed
Ashwater Primary School (Beaworthy): Closed all day; building cannot be safely heated.
Clawton Primary School (Holsworthy): Closed due to heating failure and school bus cancellations.
Upottery Primary School (Honiton): Closed after internal temperatures plummeted to 5°C following a major heating failure.
