The Labour group on Devon County Council will today call for an end to the use of zero hours contracts.
There are currently 173 council employees on these contracts which give no guarantee of work from week to week.
Labour are putting a formal motion, asking for the local authority to stop employing people on those terms and discourage its suppliers and service providers from doing the same.
The issue will be debated during a full council meeting at County Hall in Exeter later today.
