At the moment is it protected green space
Developers have outlined a scheme to build 125 homes on fields at Plympton.
South West Strategic Developments Ltd (SWSD) is proposing a new housing development on land next to Boringdon Park golf course.
In documents supporting a pre planning enquiry application to Plymouth City Council, Grassroots Planning on behalf of SWSD said the site was currently in use as agricultural fields but was well connected to the existing urban area, being bordered to the south by houses.
In the joint local plan, which is the blueprint for future development, it classifies the area, which stretches to over five hectares, as “strategic green space” which is expected to be preserved for recreation, health and wildlife but the council is facing a shortage of housing land and may have to consider new sites like this.
Affordable housing is being proposed as part of a landscape led scheme which would have various types of accessible open space and a woodland avenue created at the entrance and arrival to the site with a tree lined primary street through the development, say documents
Vehicles would access from Plymbridge Road only, which did not serve as a through route, therefore, limiting the direction of travel to/from the south.
“This will provide a safe access with sufficient visibility splays. The existing network of estate roads to the south will enable the quick dispersion of traffic based on their destination, which will avoid any particular concentration of demand at any single location. It is likely that the majority of traffic will eventually access the Plymouth Road corridor, albeit at a number of locations depending on their destination.”
Developers are seeking advice from planning officers before deciding whether to submit an outline planning application.
