Emergency services were called at 00:10am yesterday (Wednesday 8th August).
A blue Seat Leon left the road, hit a hedge and came to stop in a field where it caught fire.
The driver, a 21-year-old man from Tiverton, was arrested on suspicion of being unfit through drink and criminal damage. He was taken into custody and later released under investigation pending further enquiries.
The passenger, a 17-year-old girl sustained life-threatening burns as a result of the collision and was taken to hospital in Bristol for treatment.
