Exeter Golf and Country Club’s oldest member, Terry Smyth aged 96, scored a hole in one on the course in November.
Terry’s hole in one may be a record-breaker in the UK. 90 year old Ken Robertson from Leamington and County Golf Club scored a hole in one last year.
For his rare accomplishment, Exeter Golf and Country Club has announced that members aged 85 and over can enjoy free golf, tennis, squash or gym when they have been a member for over 10 years.
Terry has been a loyal member at Exeter Golf Club for 65 years. Despite his age, the golfer still manages to keep fit and healthy and says that's the key reason behind his success.
"It's good exercise," he said. "I can manage to get in 18 holes every time we play. I enjoy the game so much, Ive been playing for about 15 years because it's so enjoyable and good for you health.
"I'm pretty fit for my age. I have a fairly active life and I think that's all pat and parcel of it."
Speaking about his hole in one, Terry added:
"I had a fairly good shot on the green actually, it didn't bounce straight in, but it rolled about 5 feet into the hole."
