Latest figures show community hospitals in Exeter, East and Mid Devon have the best waiting times for patients in the South of England.
An organisation looking at emergency care, the Kings Fund, found that their A&E departments saw nearly 99 per cent of patients within four hours.
The efficient performance of their minor injury units helped take the pressure off the main A&E department at Exeter RD&E.
The community hospitals also performed well in terms of scheduled treatments - more than 95 per cent who'd been referred on by their GPs had their treatment within 18 weeks.
