Two people are in a serious condition in hospital, one critical, following an incident which closed the A30 in both directions early on Sunday morning.

The road was blocked for about twelve hours between the M5 at Junction 29, Exeter, and Daisy Mount Cross from around half past midnight.

Two silver cars, a Vauxhall Astra and a Seat Altea are believed to have been travelling in opposite directions near Exeter Airport when they collided head-on.

A 48-year-old female passenger in the Seat, who is from Ottery St Mary, was taken to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital with life-threatening multiple injuries. She is said to be in a critical condition.

The driver of the Seat, a 49-year-old man, also from Ottery St Mary, was also taken to the RD&E with serious injuries.

Officers are appealing for witnesses to come forward. Anyone with information is asked to call 101.
