New measures start next month

A Devon road notorious for accidents near Exeter is getting major safety upgrades as part of a government investment.

Seven yellow box markings will be installed for junction 29 of the A30 near the Science Park as part of a wider £13 million investment across the southwest by National Highways.

Numbers from the past five years have shown that 13 reported collisions have occurred on the northbound slip at the Science Park, and 75% of these incidents were directly caused by drivers jumping red lights.

Police will deploy mobile camera vans around the area to monitor the improvements, which are set to take place next month.

Jack Mason, South West Road Safety Manager, said, "Safety remains the top priority for the region. We're always is exploring innovative ways to protect commuters, they are also focused on maintaining the general reliability and condition of the road network through government-backed investment".

It's hoped the upgrades will reduce avoidable accidents on one of Exeter's busiest commuter routes.
