There were more than seven hundred and seventy cases of domestic violence involving alcohol and drugs in Exeter, during the 12 months to March 2012.
Police figures show that in Mid and East Devon there were more than eight hundred and sixty.
The number of reported incidents is much higher in all three areas.... but those which are serious enough to be categorised as crimes mainly involve drink or drugs.
The link is being highlighted during Domestic Violence Awareness Week - with anyone concerned about their use of alcohol being urged to seek advice.
