External auditors have been asked to investigate Devon and Somerset County Councils' failure to award a contract for the roll-out of super-fast broadband in the county.
They were poised to award it to BT in June but pulled out - saying the company wasn't offering value for money or guaranteeing the necessary timescale.
The auditors will look at the whole process to see what went wrong, after being called in by the shadow deputy leader of Devon county council.
