A building company's apologised to residents near Ottery St Mary after convoys of lorries thundered past their homes on the way to the construction site.
People in the Wiggaton and Tipton St John area complained to their town councillor about the HGVs passing close to their homes on their way to and from the site at the former Gerway Nurseries.
One man said he counted 11 lorries in less than an hour - and was worried about danger to pedestrians and potential damage to driveways and listed bulldings.
The company, David Wilson Homes, has confirmed that the vehicles had been using Sidmouth Road when they were meant to go through the town centre - and the contractors have now been reminded of the correct route.
