Roof collapses at Mid Devon home
A property with a thatched roof has been seriously damaged in a fire.
Fire control received multiple calls about the blaze in the Stoodleigh area near Bampton, just north of Tiverton around 7.45pm on Monday.
Fire engines from Bampton, Dulverton, Tiverton, South Molton, Cullompton, Middlemoor, Danes Castle in central Exeter attended alongside a water foam carrier from Barnstaple, an aerial ladder platform from Barnstaple, an incident command unit from Wiveliscombe, a welfare pod from Crediton, a water carrier from Danes Castle and two high volume pumps from Wellington (who were released shortly after arrival) and an incident support unit from Martock. Western Power were called to isolate the electricity.
The building was well alight when crews arrived, and during the night a partial collapse of the roof meant crews had to fight the fire externally to prevent escalation. Crews were able to successfully salvage contents before getting out.
No one is reported hurt.
