Haul found after uncover operation

A shop in Barnstaple has been ordered to close for three months for selling a haul of legal tobacco.

On Tuesday (21 April), a joint operation by local police and Trading Standards found 5,000 illicit cigarettes and 120 pouches at Dilan's Market on the high street. The items were located in a concealed underground compartment.

More than 20 premises across Devon have been closed through similar task forces since last July.

Operations Manager for Trading Standards, Alex Fry, said "selling legal tobacco puts public health at risk, undermines legitimate businesses, and is often linked to wider criminal activity. We'll continue to work closely with the Police and Act where this kind of behaviour is identified to protect local communities."
