Woman, 80s, dead. Man arrested.
A murder enquiry is underway in North Devon following the death of a pensioner near Bideford.
Police were called by the ambulance service at 11.40 a.m. on Monday 11 January to J.H. Taylor Drive at Northam following reports of concern for the welfare of a woman in a property.
When emergency services got there they found the woman in her 80s who was later confirmed deceased. Enquiries remain ongoing to identify and inform next of kin. Formal identification is yet to take place.
Following initial enquiries the death is currently being treated as suspicious. A 35-year-old man from Bideford has been arrested on suspicion of murder.
A police cordon and scene guard remain in place at this time whilst emergency services carry out enquiries at the scene.
