It comes amid reports the corporation's funding model may be looked at
Exeter MP Ben Bradshaw has warned the government to “think very carefully before doing anything hasty” with the BBC's funding model.
It comes after it was revealed the thinktank of Boris Johnson's top advisor Dominic Cummings called for the “end of the corporation in its current form” back in 2004.
Before the election, the Prime Minister also said he would "look at" the future of the licence fee.
Speaking to the Guardian newspaper, Mr Bradshaw, a former culture secretary and BBC journalist, said it belongs to the British public, not the government.
He added Mr Cummings “would like nothing more than to replace the BBC with a rightwing propaganda channel like Fox”.
On Monday, Lord Tony Hall announced he was stepping down as the director-general of the corporation.
