Bunny found dumped by road

He's missing much of his fur.

The RSPCA is appealing for information after the black male rabbit was found missing all his fur on the underside of his body and legs, with sores and wounds.

A passing member of the public found him on Thursday (18th July) lying next to an open cage filled with dirty bedding and faeces in Greenway Lane, Kingswear, Brixham

RSPCA inspector Claire Ryder said: “Looking at the state this rabbit was in, it is clear he had been allowed to suffer for some time. All the fur on the underside of his body is sadly missing because of the awful conditions he’d lived in.”

Claire added: “It’s really appalling that somebody thought dumping this poor rabbit at the side of a road was the appropriate thing to do. When you take on an animal as a pet, you have a duty to care for them, so it’s incredibly sad to see a pet who has sadly not had the care and attention they deserve.

“It’s difficult to know why anyone would do this, if you are struggling to look after an animal there is help out there. Dumping an animal is never the answer but sadly it is something the RSPCA sees regularly. Inside the cage was several inches of wet bedding and faeces, which no doubt caused this poor rabbit to suffer.

“I am really keen to hear from anyone who may recognise this rabbit, and may have some information about who owned him and who is responsible for abandoning him. Anyone with information can call me in complete confidence on our inspector’s appeal line number on 0300 123 8018.”

The rabbit is now receiving care and attention at an RSPCA rescue centre while he gets fit and healthy enough to be found a loving new home.
