A number of incidents on Monday night
Devon firefighters have been involved in a number of incidents over the last 24 hours.
Crews from across the county were called out on Monday evening [1 May] to tackle a blaze in Porlock Weir near Minehead involving two thatched properties which were “well alight.”
People were told to avoid the area, while locals were asked to shut their windows and doors due to large amounts of smoke coming from the fire.
Firefighters, including from Cullompton, South Molton and Tiverton, have been on the scene overnight, with the incident still ongoing as of 8am this morning [2 May].
There was also a fire at a second floor flat in Paignton. Crews were called to Clifton with Maidenway at around 10pm on Monday.
The fire was extinguished, while Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue service has confirmed nobody was inside at the time.
Meanwhile, a washing machine fire in Barnstaple on Monday evening was out before crews arrived.
