Exmouth and Dartmoor badly hit this season
A campaign group is touring south west litter hotspots calling for support to introduce hefty fines or huge amounts of community service for offenders.
People in Exmouth this week were broadly supportive of a crackdown on litter louts.
"We are the most filthy littered country in the western world and we should be ashamed of ourselves," says John Reed, founder of the Clean Up Britain Campaign. "People who don't litter shouldn't be afraid of £1,000 fines, because it will never happen to them."
East Devon District Council say they peruse 100 per cent of cases where they have evidence of littering. This year they've issued 18 fines totalling around £4,500. That's an average of £250 per fine.
This short report from BBC Spotlight has some lovely shots of Exmouth; happily pretty clear of litter.
