Exeter's retail trade is reaping the rewards of a bumper Christmas shopping season, according to early indications.
The vice-chairman of the Exeter Chamber of Commerce says the details are still to be analysed, but many traders are reporting an excellent December in terms of income.
Andrew McNeilly, who's also manager of the Guildhall shopping centre, says the actual number of shoppers was hit by bad weather and competition from online retailing.. but the city has still performed MUCH better than most others.
Most retailers have reported an 'excellent' December and say the amount spent by individual shoppers has increased.
