The meals-on-wheels equivalent
Pledges for sledges, Clovelly's equivalent of meals-on-wheels was launched by the Clovelly response team, provide residents of the famous privately owned North Devon village with essentials such as milk, bread and even a fish supper from the local chippy from the back of a sledge.
Because Clovelly's main cobbled street is so steep, deliveries are made by sledge. People pledge supplies; it goes on the sledge and it gets to someone who needs it.
The Clovelly Community Care group was set up at the start of lockdown in March to keep the parish supplied and stocked and to connect the 220 village residents. They're determined to look after everyone in the village through this crisis.
Disused red telephone boxes are also used as makeshift pantries full of groceries and essential cleaning and cosmetic supplies and even toys and games to keep the boredom at bay, all for residents to use at their leisure,
The scheme has also been rolled out in neighbouring villages and towns of Hartland.
